How do I know if an author is an expert?
Answer
To determine which articles or books are written by an authority in the field...
Note the Author's Name
- Are there any advanced degrees listed (M.D, M.S., Ph.D., Ed.D)?
- What is the author's affiliation or place of work? Do they work in a field that is relevant to the article's subject?
- Find the author in Google Scholar or Scopus to see other published articles.
If no author is listed, research the organization or publisher.
For websites
- Look at the "About" page
- Check the domain name at the end of the web URL (.edu .gov .org .com .net)
